Eligibility Criteria for India Post GDS Recruitment

Candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria to apply for the Gramin Dak Sevak positions:

Educational Qualification for India Post GDS Recruitment

  • 10th Standard Pass: Applicants must possess a Secondary School Examination (SSE) pass certificate of 10th standard with passing marks in Mathematics and English from any recognized Board of School Education in India.
  • Local Language: The applicant should have studied the local language at least up to 10th Standard from a recognized board. Details of post-wise local languages are provided in Annexure-III of the official notification.

Special Provisions : India Post GDS Recruitment

  • Arunachal Pradesh: Knowledge of both ‘English or Hindi’ (studied up to 10th standard) and any of the 23 tribal local languages/dialects. Proficiency in tribal languages will be verified via a certificate from the concerned Deputy Commissioner or authorized officer.
  • Goa: Must have studied Konkani or Marathi at the 10th standard level. If only Marathi, proficiency in Konkani is also required, verified by a certificate from Goa Konkani Akademi or authorized Government authority.
  • Sikkim: Knowledge of “English and any one of the following 12 languages – Nepali, Bhutia, Lepcha, Limbu, Newari, Rai, Gurung, Mangar, Sherpa, Tamang, Sunuwar or Bhujel – studied at the 10th standard level.” Proficiency verification through a Certificate of Proficiency if not studied up to 10th standard.
  • Nagaland: Knowledge of “English or Hindi as compulsory or elective subject studied at least upto 10th standard and knowledge of any of the 19 tribal local languages/dialects.” Proficiency verification through a certificate from the concerned Deputy Commissioner.

  • Fee: Rs. 100/- (Rupees One Hundred only) is to be paid by applicants for all posts notified in the choice of Division.
  • Exemptions: Payment of fee is exempted for all female applicants, SC /ST applicants, PwBD, and Transwomen applicants.
  • Payment Mode: Fees can be paid through online modes using Credit/Debit cards, Net Banking, or UPI.
  • Refund Policy: Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.

Selection Process for GDS Vacancy

The selection process for Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) posts will be based on the following criteria:

  • Merit List: A system-generated merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained/conversion of Grades/Points to marks in the Secondary School Examination (10th standard) from recognized Boards. The percentage will be calculated to the accuracy of 4 decimals.
  • Grade Conversion: For applicants with only grades, subject-wise marks will be derived by applying a multiplication factor of 9.5. For CGPA, it will be multiplied by 9.5. Candidates are advised to fill grades/points as applicable, and the system will convert them to marks.
  • Tie-Breaking Criteria: In case of a tie in marks, the merit will be decided based on a priority order: DOB (Older in age), ST trans-woman, ST female, SC trans-woman, SC female, OBC trans-woman, OBC female, EWS trans-woman, EWS female, UR trans-woman, UR female, ST trans-male, ST Male, SC trans-male, SC Male, OBC trans-male, OBC male, EWS trans-male, EWS male, UR trans-male, UR male.
  • Document Verification (DV): Shortlisted candidates will undergo physical verification of original documents by the designated Engaging Authority. Failure to produce original certificates or any discrepancies will lead to cancellation of candidature.
  • Pre-Engagement Formalities: Successful candidates must complete pre-engagement formalities, including basic training and accommodation arrangement, within 30 days of the offer of provisional engagement.

  1. One-Time Registration (OTR): Visit the official online engagement portal https://indiapost.gov.in/gdsonlineengagement and complete the one-time registration to obtain a unique Registration Number. Ensure your mobile number and email ID are active for OTP verification and communication.
