Important note on this table: Per the notification, reservation for Sportsman, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), and Ex-Servicemen of Punjab operates as horizontal reservation – meaning these candidates are drawn from within the vertical categories (UR/EWS/SC/BC) rather than being counted as fully separate, additional vacancies. Given the complexity of this nested roster and some ambiguity in a few cells when extracting the original table, candidates should treat the figures above as indicative and verify the exact, authoritative category-wise and sub-category-wise vacancy numbers directly from the official notification PDF on sssc.gov.in before applying.

Category abbreviations used for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): LV = Low Vision, HH = Hard of Hearing, OA = One Arm, OL = One Leg, BA = Both Arms, BL = Both Legs, OAL = One Arm and One Leg, LC = Leprosy Cured, Dw = Dwarfism, AAV = Acid Attack Victims, SLD = Specific Learning Disability, MI = Mental Illness, MD = Multiple Disabilities, SD/SI = Spinal Deformity/Spinal Injury.

SSSC Punjab Clerk Selection Process

Stage 1: Online Written Examination (Computer Based Test)

SubjectType of ExamNo. of Questions/ComponentsMaximum Marks
General KnowledgeObjective50 questions (1 mark each)50
English CompositionObjective20 questions (1 mark each)20
SubjectiveEssay (150 words) – 10 marks; Letter – 5 marks; Precis – 5 marks; Translation from Punjabi to English – 10 marks30
Total Marks100

Duration of the exam is 2 hours. Qualifying marks are 33% in each subject, and a candidate must additionally secure at least 40% marks in aggregate in the Written Examination to be considered to have qualified. There is negative marking of 1/4 mark for every wrong answer in the objective (MCQ) portion; unattempted questions receive no credit or discredit. The subjective English Composition part is checked only for candidates who secure 33% or more marks in General Knowledge.

Stage 2: Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) – Qualifying Only

Candidates who qualify the written exam (numbers decided category-wise by the Hon’ble High Court) are called for a mandatory Computer Proficiency Test; marks from this test are not counted in the final merit, since it is purely qualifying in nature.

  • Part-I – Spreadsheet Test: 10 marks, 10 minutes’ duration; candidates must score 40% or more (4 or more marks) to qualify.
  • Part-II – Computer Typing Test (English): Checked only for candidates who clear Part-I; required typing speed is 30 words per minute (WPM), calculated using the formula: (Number of words typed − Mistakes) ÷ 10.
  • typed − Mistakes) ÷ 10.

Specified categories of Persons with Benchmark Disabilities can apply for exemption from the Computer Proficiency Test, along with a Disability Certificate and, where applicable, a Medical Certificate from a Government healthcare institution confirming a physical limitation to type at 30 WPM, submitted within 15 days of the written exam result declaration. The decision of the Competent Authority on exemption is final.

Stage 3: Checking of Original Testimonials/Interaction

Candidates who qualify both the Written Examination and the Computer Proficiency Test (numbers decided category-wise by the High Court) are called for checking of original testimonials/interaction.

Final Merit List

The Select List is prepared strictly on the basis of merit in the Written Examination (Computer Based Test); candidates higher in merit are recommended for appointment as per the number of vacancies to be filled. In case of a tie, the older candidate is ranked higher; if the date of birth is also the same, candidates are placed alphabetically (A–Z).

Answer Key, Objections, and Normalization

A provisional Answer Key is published on sssc.gov.in after the written exam, and candidates may raise objections or cross-objections, supported by reasons and documentary proof, on payment of a non-refundable fee of ₹25 per objection. If the written exam is held in multiple shifts, scores in the objective portion are normalised using a Standard Deviation Method, as specified in the notification. Re-evaluation of answer sheets is not allowed; only re-checking (to confirm no part was left unevaluated or there is no totalling error) may be requested in writing within 30 days of the final result, on payment of ₹500 per answer sheet.
